10 Video Games That Only Became Great After Updates
8. No Man's Sky
We as a species are fascinated by space. Whether you’re watching Star Trek to explore strange alien worlds or Star Wars for a dramatic action-packed soap opera, we can’t get enough of it. That’s why, when Hello Games presented us the option to explore a procedurally generated universe, a lot of people were very excited.
With the Idea of strange new worlds in their mind, players booted up No Man's Sky on the release day to see a day one patch. Never a good sign. What was found past this patch was also disappointing. What players experienced was a slow trudge through similar settings with very little to do, some enjoyed the freedom and exploration of the game but it wasn’t what everyone had hoped for.
You have to have respect for Hello Games, though, because they didn’t give up on their project.
Months after release the “Foundation Update” dropped. It added many new features such as base building and 30 hours of story. The company didn’t stop there however, updates dropped regularly with some happening two years after its release to coincide with a release on Xbox One.
The beginning for No Man's Sky was poor, there's no other way to put it. Hello Games stood up and corrected their mistake though, with the game you play now very different from the one that was released.
