10 Video Games That Only Make Sense If You Bought The DLC
5. Dragon Age 2 - Introduces Inquisition's Villain
Although Dragon Age 2 was a disappointing sequel to an amazing original game, its DLC actually did a pretty good job of furthering the base narrative to create something more inline with the rich and detailed stories that fans expect from the series.
However, one piece of DLC was made to specifically bridge the gap between this sequel and the next, introducing Corypheus, the main villain of Dragon Age: Inquisition. Acting as a prologue to the third game, this Legacy DLC features the first run in with the Blood Mage, with his origins, motivation, and relationship to the world all being explored here, rather than in the sequel.
Consequently, players booting up Dragon Age: Inquisition without having played through this DLC first will have no idea who this new villain is or why he's suddenly a threat, never mind understanding the significance of characters from the second game returning to battle him later in the title.
It robs that sequel of some of its nuance and complexity, and without the DLC Corypheus comes across like a two-bit bad guy with no real motivation, making the plot look like just another generic end-of-the-world fantasy tale in the process.
