10 Video Games That Pissed You Off THE RIGHT WAY

8. Akane

A little-known arcade slasher, Akane takes place in a futuristic Tokyo, Japan. The cyberpunk setting and grimy soundtrack means Akane manages to stand out in a sea of other titles in the genre.

Armed with a katana against a never-ending stream of enemies, you'll cut your way through incoming attackers on your way to eventual doom. The interesting wrinkle to Akane's design is that there is no true success to be had at all as the insta-kill mechanic works both ways.

Most enemies die in one hit, but so do you. The mission is to complete as many tasks as possible before you're inevitably taken down, with each goal being replaced with a much tougher one.

It's comforting to know that every single run will result in eventual death, but that won't stop you from trying to forge a happy ending. It can be infuriating to know that no progress can be made for hours on end but, much like Super Meat Boy, the frustration is part of the fun.

Akane will set you back pennies in the financial department, but might shorten your life with just how much it can --and will-- piss you off.
