10 Video Games That Punish You For Taking Shortcuts
4. Navarro Run - Fallout 2
The world of Fallout 2 isn't really known for forgiveness. The wasteland is full of mutants and raiders ready to chew your character up at a moment's notice. If you ever need a reminder of this fact, look no further than the military outpost at Camp Navarro.
Camp Navarro is the Enclave's base of operation in the mainland wasteland and the setting for one of the main quest missions later in the story.
For this reason, the base is filled with high-level enemies with advanced power armor and weapons that can easily "dissuade" any curious player from advancing through the game a little too quickly.
Attempting to sneak into the base before you're supposed to be there is one of the most punishing experiences in Fallout 2. The soldiers in Navarro are always on high alert, and the tiniest mistake on your part will make them unload a war crime's worth of lead and lasers into your character.
Bet hey, if you manage to somehow survive, you can technically finish the game early, or better yet, get yourself a shining new power armor and cruise through the rest of the game without a care in the world.
