10 Video Games That Released At The WORST Possible Time
8. Alan Wake
Taking a look further back to 2010, and Alan Wake was in a weird place, even on Steam.
It wasn’t great, it wasn’t awful, it had atmosphere and heart but not enough to make it a heavy hitter. Although, could anything really have the potential to hit heavy when released on the exact same day as Red Dead Redemption?
Alongside Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands, that’s a pair to beat, and we haven’t even mentioned that it was originally an Xbox 360 exclusive.
Both before and after release you had Skate 3 and Super Mario Galaxy 2.
Really, no matter how you spin it, Alan Wake was going to struggle in every market it tried to break into.
Wake now sits in that weird area of not quite a cult classic, not quite a hidden gem but more, hey, remember that game that was kind of okay but you don’t fully recall because of Red Dead? Interesting to note, Alan Wake actually got a good bit of buzz in 2017 when it was indefinitely removed from Steam due to music licensing issues.
It got a huge discount, which finally got a lot of people interested.
