Shao Kahn is historically the overarching antagonist of the Mortal Kombat franchise - the all-powerful ruler of Outworld who serves as the end-boss in many of the series' games.

Shao Kahn is a takes-no-prisoners ass-kicker who presents a major brick wall of difficulty, and though skilled players will eventually be able to defeat him, he's mostly managed to maintain a fearsome reputation.

That was, at least, until the most recent entry into the series, Mortal Kombat 11, where he played second fiddle to new antagonist Kronika in the hope of once again becoming the ruler of Outworld.

Kahn is then defeated and blinded by Kitana before, in the game's Aftermath expansion, being betrayed by Shang Tsung and drained of his soul alongside Sindel.

Given that Kahn is typically presented as an ultra-wise and powerful enemy, seeing him get ganked so effortlessly by both Kitana and Shang Tsung felt like a major disservice to both the character and to fans.
