10 Video Games That Survived Embarrassing Launches
6. Diablo 3
Considering how bad the issues were for SimCity, an inherently single player game, imagine how bad it was for Diablo III a year beforehand. Unlike SimCity, Diablo (as a series) offers multiplayer elements, causing a considerably bigger connection.
It showed that beta testing to a small amount doesn't compare to the sheer volume of stress at launch for the thousands of players at once, resulting in terrible or no connections for a period of time after. It was safe to say that people weren't happy.
Blizzard took it on the chin, yet continued to support Diablo III, later porting the Ultimate Evil Edition to consoles down the line.
It doesn't get a completely free pass, though. The auction house, a format in which both in-game and real currency could be used for items, drew a lot of initially negative reception.
Thankfully though, it has since been removed and focus has primarily shifted back to the dungeon crawling action we all know and love.
