After the catastrophic failure the original Croc endured on Gameboy Color, THQ decided to double down on its losses and have Natsume create a sequel. Hitting stores only a year after its predecessor, some critics felt that the relatively short development time is vindictive of its quality.

Although it’s impossible to feel sad while listening to Croc 2’s chipper 8 bit soundtrack, some players thought that beneath the rudimentary puzzle-solving and item collecting, the game shared likeness to a walking-simulator and was labeled boring.

This was the kind of game I would play in restaurants waiting for food, serving a purpose to fill time - and for the most part I enjoyed it. The series still has a cult following online and I believe this to be powered mostly by nostalgia. Criticism on the game found online can usually be met with extremely defensive behavior. “WHAT THE HELL IS YOUR PROBLEM THIS GAME IS MY CHILDHOOD THIS IS THE BEST GAME EVER IT'S NOT BORING” - Yes, word for word, that was a real comment I found.
