5. Marvel’s Avengers

Marvel’s Avengers was staggeringly underwhelming from the jump, with its live-service model oozing capitalist greed and passionless design choices.

From the repetitive gameplay and grindy loot system to its buggy mechanics, slow progression systems, lackluster matchmaking, shallow content, and monotonous environments and enemies, it was a decent yet sizably disappointing interpretation of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.

Even its post-release story and character expansions couldn’t prevent massive player drop-offs week after week.

Unsurprisingly, Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix Europe officially stopped supporting it at the start of 2023, but not before attempting to recoup some of their losses by charging $75 for the MCU Outfits costume pack.

Adding insult to injury, the DLC became available a day before the shutdown announcement was made, and a few weeks later, all of the cosmetic add-ons ever released became free. Specifically, Crystal Dynamics declared that “all the game’s Marketplace, Challenge Card, and Shipment cosmetic content [will be] available to all players for free.”

Sure, that’s great news for late adopters, but what about the people who purchased most – if not all – of those extras and showed support from the very beginning?
