10 Video Games That Were Basically One Big Apology

6. Every Sonic Game Over The Past Decade (2015)

So far in this list we've shown how developers have mainly apologised for individual titles. Sega, not to be outdone, decided to cover all bases by apologising for EVERY bad Sonic game from the past decade.

Once considered a genuine rival to Mario, the blue speedster had a dramatic fall from grace during the noughties. So much so that Sega felt they had to come out and explain themselves. “Sega has publicly apologized to the fans as the quality of console games in the Sonic franchise hasn’t been acceptable over recent years,” said Jon Rooke, Segas Europe Marketing Director.

The transition between 2D and 3D had been inconsistent at best, so Sega looked to start from scratch with future titles to try and get the fans back on board.

This apology was issued a couple of years after Sonic Lost World, which received a lukewarm reception at best. But when we consider sub par Sonic games such as Sonic Forces, Sonic Unleashed and Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric, perhaps the apology was warranted!

A bold move, considering you are effectively telling your fan base that most games based on your most iconic character over the last ten years have been rubbish, but hopefully one that will pay off.
