10 Video Games That Were Basically One Big Apology

3. Red Steel 2

There is no greater contrast in gaming than a game being one of the worst releases on a console, to its sequel fully utilising everything that console has to offer.

The first Red Steel game, a launch title for the Wii, was notable for being a first person game that used the Wiimote controller, as well as a Red Steel specific Nunchuk attachment which was used to control the katana and gunplay simultaneously.

If Wii Sports was the watermark of a game that realised the Wiimote's potential, then Red Steel showed what it was like to fall short of the mark.

While some commended the game for its innovative and unique controls, many reviewers slammed the control scheme for being unresponsive and inconsistent.

The sequel Red Steel 2 managed to get it right. The once derided motion controls had a complete overhaul, and as a result were more responsive and effortless to use, making you truly feel like a gun slinging ninja. It was felt with Red Steel 2 that the Wiimote controller seemed purpose built for it.

A great example of taking something the first game fell short on, and then realising its potential to become one of the best games on the console.
