10 Video Games That Were Too Damn Long
6. Middle Earth: Shadow Of War
As a sequel, Shadow of War does a lot of things right. It maintains the solid game play while adding a lot of fun new surprises, it builds upon the already fantastic Nemesis system, and it somehow manages to make the plot something to care about.
So it really is a huge disappointment when, after a plot twist filled with betrayals and deaths, the game decides that to get the real ending you have to work, and you have to work hard. It's at this point that the grind becomes ridiculous as Talon and the player must arduously defend the fortresses they've been amassing throughout the game, just to see a five minute cut-scene that wraps everything up.
This is exasperated further by the fact that the orc captains that invade your fortresses only get stronger as the end game goes on. Normally this would be fine, but a single death or losing all of you fort points in one of these raids means not only do you fail, but now you need to retake the fort again. Plus the time it takes to level up all of your orcs borders on torture via video game. Of course there is a way to bypass this. For just a small fee, Shadow of War will allow you buy new captains of a much higher level able to take on the end game content.
So either grind it out or cough up the credit card. Oh joy.
