10 Video Games That Were Too Damn Long
5. LA Noire
LA Noire has not aged well. The game at the time of release was praised almost unanimously for its innovation and incredibly detailed faces that were meant to display real emotion and test every gamer's actual detective skills. This technology was such a gimmick that the entire project essentially hinged on it.
In reality, the game is a glorified tech demo that lasts for 20 hours. The emotion that these characters attempts to pass off could easily be seen as some sort of Invasion Of The Body Snatchers-esque detective drama, only instead of screaming, these "humans" lose all control of the muscles in their faces whenever they lie.
Ultimately, besides the uncanny valley that the people occupy, the game fails due to its lack of content. Every case plays out exactly the same regardless of what desk Cole Phelps is sat on at the time. Search a crime scene, interview pod people, find a clue, interrogate suspects, maybe have a small shootout, make the arrest (it doesn't matter who, the game doesn't care), rinse and repeat ad nauseam. While the game's narrative may incentivise some players, there's no denying that cutting out all of the inconsequential cases and shortening the length down to a reasonable 5-10 hours would benefit the game immensely.
