Just about everyone reading this of a certain age will fondly remember when entries in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater series were some of the most popular titles in the gaming landscape. Neversoft had struck gold by becoming the first developers to successfully transition the extreme sport into pixels while retaining a fun and arcadey playstyle.

Now sure, the franchise may have lost its way towards the latter part of the 2000s but, without an instalment since 2002s THPS 4, the main series had mostly retained its iconic reputation.

So, when Activision announced that Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5 would be released in 2015, fans were excited to see their nostalgic memories of the franchise brought into the modern-day. However, a limited development time meant that the game was released in a completely unplayable state prompting the necessity of an immediate patch.

THPS 5 not only sullied the good name of the series, but it further served to put a nail in the skateboard gaming genre that is crying out for another classic.
