10 Video Games That Would Sell MILLIONS With One Simple Tweak
4. Shenmue III - Get With The Times, Granddad
Shenmue III was always going to be divisive.
Fans of the series were going to riot if the long-awaited sequel didn't "maintain its integrity" from the first two. Conversely, newcomers are going to go in and not realise that the game deliberately handles like crap, and therefore lambaste it. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.
But surely, there could have been some compromise from Yu Suzuki and his team in the twenty years it took to create (well, five, if you go from the Kickstarter announcement) the game? It could have retained its eccentric charm whilst not handling like a clunky mess.
If Deadly Premonition can come out in between this and the last one, falling under the "so bad it's good or something akin to it" banner, why couldn't Shenmue III take a leaf out of its book? Much like Tomb Raider revised from the likes of Uncharted, couldn't Shenmue have taken some modern cues from its recent contemporaries?
Turns out, it was too proud, and we got an updated relic from the past. Newcomers just didn't "get it", and the voting was done with their wallets.
