10 Video Games That Would Sell MILLIONS With One Simple Tweak

3. Brutal Legend - Stayed As An Action Adventure, NOT An RTS

Brutal Legend
Double Fine

Boy, Tim Schafer, you really had us with this one. Hooded and successfully winked, the ire that came at Brutal Legend on its release was thoroughly deserved.

It's not that it's a bad game, per se, it was just the underhanded-ness of how the game was marketed, even in its playable demo before release. You see, we were under the impression that the Jack Black and rock legend vehicle was a hack and slash adventure game with driving elements. This is what all the pre-release marketing and demo led us to believe.

It was only on release that it turned into a Command & Conquer-lite real-time-strategy game that narked everyone off. Had we been told this... I'm not sure the outcome would have been any different.

However, had it been just an action adventure, or just an RTS, things might have been. Amalgamating the two genres just put off fans of either, because gamers are creatures of habit and loathe to learn new genres without warning.

Which didn't do Brutal Legend any favours, despite the wealth of talent involved and the usual pitch-perfect humour you'd expect from Double Fine.
