Charm can go a very, very long way.

In the case of Deadly Premonition - sometimes referred to as 'The Room' of video games - it's gone as far as making it a complete cult success, with story mastermind known only as SWERY becoming the stuff of pop gaming culture overnight. If you're not acquainted with The Room, it's a terrible movie that was made as a serious tale about a love triangle by writer-director Tommy Wiseau. Although the key difference in Wiseau's work to that of SWERY is that the latter is actually aware of how ridiculous his creation is, whereas the former put the entire thing together under the assumption it would be regarded as some sort of classic.

In a strange turn though it seems like more and more people are warming to the horror-shlock stylings of Deadly Premonition as time goes by, mainly because of the aforementioned charm we spoke of. There's just so much individuality present throughout the cast of characters you'll come across, from the nightmarish Ringwraith-looking demon who haunts you throughout, to the elderly man carer-combo whereby the latter has to end every phrase with "So says Mr. Stewart" in response to what's been said.

It's all a bit barmy, and if you're one of many who've ever tried to get across to someone else exactly what makes it so brilliant, there's quite the amount of confusing stares and perplexed looks that'll come in return.

Rest assured though, once all the shame at liking such a stupid game has dissipated, the entirety of Premonition is something all fans of anything crazy and off-kilter should check out.
