4. Dark Souls Series

The world of Dark Souls is brutally hard. Nobody is going to deny that, but yet, we can't help but diving into each entry and feeling the pain every time From Software pumps out a new iteration.

Everything about Dark Souls is atmospheric, dark and dripping gothic lore. It's a beautifully tragic world filled with hopelessness, tragedy and horror.

This mostly comes down to the incredible creature design that roam the streets and castles of Dark Souls. Each one hellbent on ending your life and halting your progress. They're gross, demented and terrifying.

Part of what makes them so terrifying is the lack of information Dark Souls gives you. There's no codex entries, no journals to collect and a severe lack of information about its world. That's part of what makes Dark Souls scary, but hard to understand.

Not knowing the origins of how this world came to be can be off putting, but those who delve deep enough can manage to create a story of the world, but Dark Souls is very resistant in giving you its lore upfront.

Regardless, we love the adventure and we love the pain Dark Souls delivers.
