10 Video Games We Still Can't Believe Got Cancelled
7. Mega Man Universe
Capcom’s superstar, Mega Man, is a character with plenty of titles under his belt. Of course, being on this list, not all of his games have made it to the shelves. Mega Man Universe was an ambitious project that never got to see the light of day.
This innovative platformer was planned to follow the storyline of Mega Man 2, missing out any of the protagonist’s special abilities that we saw in more recent titles. The twist on this release was centred on level design and aesthetic, with a new 2.5D design and rendered graphics. The biggest change, however, was that players could now edit the existing levels as well as creating their own.
This game was also expected to include character customisation, with a variety of interchangeable skins and abilities. Much like with the massively popular Super Mario Maker series, players would be able to upload their levels to an online community, as well as playing through other user-made levels online.
Sadly, in late 2010, news around Mega Man Universe went dark, with Capcom releasing a statement confirming the cancellation in March of 2011 due to “various circumstances.” We can only assume they’re kicking themselves over this decision, given the success of Super Mario Maker four years later.
