8. Make It More Like Skyrim - The Elder Scrolls Online
After The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim became a global phenomenon, it was no surprise when an MMORPG spin-off called The Elder Scrolls Online was whipped out.
Although sales were through the roof, the reviews were a different story. The Elder Scrolls Online's narrative, structure, mechanics, skill system, characters, and themes were simplified, robbing the saga of its intricacies and complexity.
There was also a slew of bugs, including a duplication error, that allowed players to amass wealth fit for a king with little effort. (This exploit led to thousands of accounts being banned.)
Just to add salt to the wounds, a subscription was required to keep playing The Elder Scrolls Online.
Because The Elder Scrolls Online made a fortune, ZeniMax were under no obligation to change anything. A year after launch, however, ESO was re-released as Tamriel Unlimited. Rather than just tightening things up a little, this version remedied almost every issue, no matter how minor.
ESO 2.0 offered a more open-world experience, a better map, PvP battlegrounds, the addition of companions, tons of customisation options, superior fast-travel abilities, smoother animations, as well as new skill lines, classes, and areas.
As the cherry on top, ZeniMax decided to eradicate subscriptions, allowing players to purchase everything with a one-time payment.
