8. Uncanny Valley

Cowardly Creations

Uncanny Valley is a small, relatively short survival horror title form Cowardly Creations, which is available across most platforms.

In this side scrolling, 16-bit style game, the player takes control of security guard Tom who is about to embark on his first night shift at a new site, full of empty corridors and blinking overhead lights.

Tom must, during his shift, wander the complex to ensure all is well and basically keep everything ticking over nicely.

However, upon the discovery of scribbled notes, email correspondence visible on computer monitors, and information gleaned throughout his subsequent investigations, Tom discovers there are larger forces at work here.

A man haunted by disturbing visions and horrific nightmares, Tom's fears become manifest as he is pursued throughout the complex and indeed back to his hotel room by all manner of horrific entities.

A game designed for multiple playthroughs, Uncanny Valley has, by extension, multiple endings, the majority of which ensure the permanent expiration of our plucky night watchman.

Whether Tom is taken outside and executed by gangsters, has all of his limbs forcibly removed by the deranged Eve, or suffers other nefarious fates only alluded to via cryptic newspaper headlines, things do not turn out well for Tom.
