6. Dark Souls
The Dark Souls franchise is, like every FromSoftware game, absolutely synonymous with death.
And while you're sure to be dealt many hundreds if not thousands of brutal deaths throughout your time with the games, it's worth noting that the player character - widely referred to as the Chosen Undead - is, well, undead at the start of the game.
The Chosen Undead is stricken with an undead curse which forces its victims to resurrect every time they're killed, until eventually their minds are lost.
When the game begins, the protagonist is locked within Northern Undead Asylum, where those afflicted by the curse are lured to wait until the end of the world.
And though you soon enough make haste to leave the asylum, you're already dead before you even gain control of the Chosen Undead for the first time. FromSoft gonna FromSoft.
