10 Video Games With RUTHLESS Online Multiplayer

5. Starcraft 2

Call of Duty Modern Warfare

Moving into the strategy genre, Starcraft 2 and its expansions rank as some of the most critically acclaimed titles of the last decade. Starting with the initial release of Wings of Liberty in 2010, the long-awaited sequel was highly anticipated and quickly built its competitive audience.

The game's tactical depth across the Terrans, Zerg and Protoss factions is incredibly deep, allowing for a range of careful maneuvers that often make a world of difference in online matches. Its greatest challenge stems from multi-tasking; managing countless units across the map and looking to delay one threat while dealing with another. Annihilation is all but certain for newcomers.

Numerous competitive tournaments are held every year, but one location trumps all the rest around the world. Starcraft 2 is so popular in South Korea, it's become a national sport in its own right. The series may have effectively ended after the release of Legacy of the Void in 2015 and a smaller campaign pack called Nova Covert Ops in 2016, but it remains at the top of the hardcore strategy genre. Unless you're willing to pour thousands of hours into becoming a master player, it's very unlikely you'll be able to take on the greats at the biggest competitions.
