10 Video Games With The Most Epic Boss Line-Ups Of All Time
6. Metroid Prime 2: Echoes
First-person games have never been renowned for their boss battles, which usually entail endless strafing-and-shooting until they bite the dust. But the Metroid Prime series isn't like most other shooters, and does a great job of carrying over, and improving on, the technicality and intensity of its 2D predecessors.
Metroid Prime 2, in terms of bosses at least, is the pinnacle of the series. The intros are fantastic, and each fight takes place in a vast arena that forces you to take on a different strategy. The colossal Quadraxis gets a lot of love in particular, with a huge variety of attacks, but conversely a lot of weak points for you to target. It forces you to switch up between the first-person mode and rolling around in the Morph Ball, making the encounter feel varied, tactical and, of course, epic.
Beyond that, the be-tentacled Emperor Ing is an awesome showdown as he shifts between several spectacular forms, each of the Dark Samus duels feels like an awesome arena shooter showdown, and Chykka, which morphs from an aquatic larva to an airborne dragonfly halfway through the battle.
If only first-person shooters today took cues from Nintendo about how to do bosses well, eh?
