10 Video Games With Unique Art Styles You Need To See

5. Okami

If Killer7 is on the minimal end of the cel shading spectrum, then Okami would be at the other: a game bursting with colour that it provides a visual feast to accompany its wonderful gameplay.

Created by the now-defunct Clover Studios, borne of a team that gave us the under-appreciated Viewtiful Joe series, Okami is a beautiful 3D Zelda-esque game inspired by Japanese ink wash paintings and scripture.

Playing as the Sun God in wolf form, Amaterasu, your goal is to banish demons from the brightly animated Japan of the past. Okami's unique selling point is the Celestial Brush; a tool that lets you draw shapes on a pop-up canvas that can aid in battle or the games many varied puzzles.

Whilst 3D adventure games were more popular following Zelda's Ocarina of Time at the turn of the century, Okami tops these by being a sight to behold. Combat, exploration, even just the general tone of gameplay are all complimented by this beautiful watercolour style of art.

It's been ported on a whole host of consoles, so whatever your preference, you should give this gem a whirl.
