10 Video Games You Didn't Realise Just Got Cancelled
8. Dirt 6
Codemasters' hit racing franchise Dirt - formerly known as Colin McRae Rally until McRae's death in 2007 - has reliably been releasing new numbered entries every couple of years, with 2020's Dirt 5 being the most recent installment.
And so, it was simply a given that the developer was currently working on Dirt 6 and expected to announce it in the near-future.
That is, until Insider Gaming's Tom Henderson released a report late last year revealing that EA has cancelled their flagging Project CARS franchise.
And in a single line of Henderson's report, he also stated that Codemasters had moved on from the Dirt franchise to work on WRC 23 instead, effectively resulting in Dirt 6's immediate cancellation and the series as a whole being put on ice.
While Dirt may return in the future, evidently Codemasters felt their resources were better placed elsewhere, likely suggesting that Dirt 5 didn't meet commercial expectations despite releasing as a PS5 launch title.
