10 Video Games You Didn't Realise Just Got Cancelled
5. Watch Dogs.EXE
Splinter Cell: Hunters wasn't the only name-branded battle royale game shuttered by Ubisoft recently - they also closed up shop on a Watch Dogs-themed battle royale.
As part of the same aforementioned 4Chan leak, it was revealed that the Watch Dogs game, allegedly titled "Watch Dogs.EXE," was a rather ambitious and unique take on the battle royale genre.
It involved 50 players duking it out in a stealth-based skirmish where they were tasked with anonymously assassinating NPCs in a futuristic Tokyo while trying to avoid detection by other players, until only one survivor remained.
Other maps, such as Paris and Toronto, were also said to be in the works.
Yet for whatever reason the game had its plug pulled in late 2022, at which point the dev team was moved to work on the in-development multiplayer FPS XDefiant instead.
Ultimately this sounds like a relatively creative take on the genre, so it's a shame it never came to market, even if many Watch Dogs fans would understandably rather see Ubisoft working on a mainline fourth entry into the franchise.
