10 Video Games You Didn't Realise Just Got Cancelled
2. Deviation Games' New PS5-Exclusive Shooter
Deviation Games was founded in 2020 by Call of Duty vets Dave Anthony and Jason Blundell, and in June 2021, they announced a partnership with Sony on a "ground-breaking" new IP exclusive to the PS5 - believed to be a shooter - with the game set to enter full production in early 2022.
Nevertheless, last September Blundell left the company, and in early May 90 employees were reportedly laid off from the studio, leaving fans and analysts alike to speculate on the project's future.
Worse still, recent scuttlebutt suggests that Deviation's new IP has likely been canned.
In an episode of his Sacred Symbols podcast in late May, Colin Moriarty claimed that he'd heard from sources with prior knowledge of the lay-offs that the game had indeed been scrapped internally.
No official cancellation announcement has yet been made, admittedly, but it's incredibly easy to believe the reports, and that this may be yet another ambitious project from an exciting studio that never quite got where it needed to be.
