10 Video Games You Didn't Realise Shut Down In 2024
5. Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp
Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp is a free-to-play mobile spin-off from the hit franchise which first launched in October 2017, where players were tasked with tending to a campsite rather than a village.
Through optional subscription services and microtransactions, Pocket Camp grossed over $150 million by April 2020, though last August Nintendo confirmed that the game would be shutting down in its original iteration.
Pocket Camp was closed on November 28th of last year, though mere days later relaunched as a paid version, Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp Complete, which at least had no microtransactions and allowed players to migrate their profiles from the free one.
Even though the paid version launched for a nominal $10, not all players were thrilled about having to suddenly fork out money to keep playing, especially as this new version removed the multiplayer functionality from the original release - one of its most popular and defining features.
