10 Video Games You Didn't Realise Shut Down In 2024
4. The Day Before
Hilariously, The Day Before has already been long forgotten by most, enough that you probably assumed the definitely-not-a-scam multiplayer survival horror extraction shooter died a death in its launch year of 2023.
After years of hype and mystery surrounding its launch, The Day Before finally dropped in early access on December 7, 2023, where it was near-universally panned by critics and players alike for its atrocious, bug-filled gameplay.
Just four days later, developer Fntastic removed it from sale, and the company itself closed barely two weeks after the game's launch.
However, The Day Before's servers actually remained operational for an additional month, with the game ultimately closing up shop for good on January 22, 2024.
Since its failure, numerous ex-developers have spoken out about The Day Before's poor management behind-the-scenes, with Fntastic seemingly intentionally misrepresenting the game as an MMO, all while imposing crunch conditions on their employees.
Last September, Fntastic attempted a comeback with a new physics-based game called Escape Factory, though a failed crowdfunding run prompted them to cancel it and present a new action-horror game, Items, which is also facing a thunderous lack of interest from players. Couldn't have happened to a better company.
