10 Video Games You INSTANTLY Knew Were Trash
2. Forspoken
Forspoken was 2023's first major AAA release, with Square Enix clearly hoping that the fantastical action-RPG would become their next big blockbuster franchise.
Yet Forspoken didn't even try to disguise how aggressively generic it was, revealing its overpowering soullessness in record time.
Right from the opening cutscene, the dialogue is groan-inducingly corny, and it only gets worse once protagonist Frey is transported to the world of Athia, where she trades sub-MCU quips with her sentient bracelet Cuff.
Beyond this, players are forced to wait around 45 minutes until they can finally start fighting things, and even after that, the opening hours are so excessively constrained, with missions consisting of linear, copy-paste objectives which do anything but promote actual exploration of the open world.
Aside from the not-bad parkour traversal, this is a big-budget action tentpole desperately lacking in personality or, honestly, much of a reason to exist at all. If you bounced off it within an hour or two, nobody could blame you.
