10 Video Games You Should Play On Hard Mode
8. Fallout 4
While Fallout 4 is definitely not the first title most of us would come up with when talking about a hard game, it does have one distinct difficulty mode that completely changes the experience.
Added post-release, ‘Survival’ replaced its predecessor, now entitled ‘Very Hard’, and provides unique changes to the gameplay loop.
Survival, as somewhat implied, transforms the game into a literal survival simulator. Both manual and quicksaves are removed, as is fast travel, and the only way to save your game is through having your character sleep in a bed for at least one in-game hour.
All damage and status effects also need to be healed manually by the player, including basic human needs such as eating, drinking, and sleeping - if ignored, these begin to do further damage.
On top of all that, you deal less, more realistic damage to enemies, which in turn are stronger and appear more frequently. Your ammunition even has a carry weight now, and, yes, the dreaded, familiar weight limit starts to cause harm to your character if surpassed.
Many fans play the modern Fallout games either for their excellent stories and roleplaying, or to run around wrecking enemies in the post-apocalypse, but Survival truly allows you to live in the reality of Fallout’s world - for better or worse.
