10 Video Games You Won't Believe Got REJECTED
9. Silent Hills
Arguably the biggest what if in video game history. Silent Hills is the infamous casualty of Hideo Kojima’s messy departure from Konami. Even today, almost five years later, it’s still hazy as to why Kojima Productions, as well as the man himself, disbanded from Konami. You have to imagine it was something huge considering Hideo had his baby, Metal Gear Solid, pried from his hands as he was pushed out the door.
Konami also held the rights to Silent Hills and pulled all content, including the playable teaser. PT was the demo that had everyone in awe of its simplicity and truly terrifying gameplay. Players walked through an L shaped corridor with few rooms to explore. Each time they exited, they started over. However, instead of being dull, it was gripping, possessing an atmosphere more intense than any other horror game.
All of that meant nothing to Konami, though, kicking Kojima out as soon as The Phantom Pain was shipped. Silent Hills was off the table, as well as the collaborative efforts of Guillermo Del Toro. Norman Reedus did, however, make his way over to Kojima’s first project free from Konami, Death Stranding.
