10 Video Games You Won't Believe Share The Same Universe

1. Drakengard And Nier; Automata

Just Cause/Sleeping Dogs
Square-Enix

Since the discovery that the postapocalyptic world of Nier was the continuation of Drakengard's fantasy setting, the connection between Drakengard and Nier has been the subject of many conversations among Platinum fans. Although fully understanding this connection requires a deep dive into the complicated lore of both franchises, their games do form a cohesive and logical timeline together.

Here's a jist of how these two titles connect: Both games revolve around some evil force eradicating or trying to eradicate all of humanity. In Drakengard, the evil is a cult called the Watchers, who seek to use the seeds of an ancient flower in order to summon a powerful being that could destroy the world.

In one of Drakengard's endings, the main character Caim travels through a portal to another dimension in order to defeat the summed demon and ends up being tranported to Tokyo. He and his dragon are killed by an air strike, and their deaths release a magical force that infects all humans. This creates the setting of Nier, the prequel to Nier: Automata, where the main protagonist and her sister try to survive in a post-apocalyptic world where most of humanity was annihilated due to a mysterious disease.
