10 Ways Assassin's Creed Origins Has Already Saved The Franchise

1. The Overwhelmingly Positive Reception

Hands-down the biggest victory on Ubisoft's part was overcoming the immense level of negativity and hatred towards the series that emanated from AC Unity.

Make no mistake, people were D-O-N-E with Assassin's Creed after that sh*tshow, and even Ubisoft noted during a conference call that there was a lasting "noticeable impact" towards AC Syndicate's sales, making it one of the lowest-selling in the franchise.

Alas, Ubi refused to give up. They took two years off, looked at the competition, at their own projects, licked their wounds and gave it the old college try. Assumedly, they were determined Assassin's Creed would not be another Prince of Persia, which died after a cel-shaded makeover in 2008.

Honestly, my initial take on Origins was one of negativity. It's very easy to look at the surface level and come away thinking they haven't overhauled the basics anywhere near enough, but once you go deeper and accept this is more a refinement of Black Flag-meets-the original than a complete reboot, everything starts to slide together very well.

Forget Unity and Syndicate, the next generation of Assassin's Creed is arriving with Origins.
