10 Ways Destiny 2 Is Already Better Than The Original

9. A Clear Motive & Reason To Fight

Over the course of Destiny, the Speaker, Vanguard and others send you on tasks that mean nothing. You have no idea why you are doing what you are doing, and you never really get an explanation.

You're given an array of guns and armor and told to just go shoot stuff. Because reasons.

"There's no time to explain" is a very on the nose quote from The Stranger. There's apparently no time to explain why we should even care, though the whole time characters maintain our actions are of the utmost importance. You go from A to B shooting things and listening to Dinkle/Nolanbot talk about things you have no idea about, until the story just sort of ends in the Black Garden. At that point, you have no idea what the Black Garden is, why you should care, or how you went from Mars to Venus back to Mars.

Honestly, it's just one big mess.

Destiny: The Game About Doing Things For Reasons.

Thankfully, Destiny 2 looks to change all of this. With a clearer focus on story as previously stated, it's presented a motive to fight. We aren't just blindly listening and doing anymore. The Tower has been invaded, the Vanguard has been scattered and the giant floating Traveler has been crippled more than ever, which in turn, has made us weaker. We have a reason to fight. We have an enemy right in front of us, whom we have reason to shoot in the face other than "just because". We have a Vanguard to reassemble, and a home to take back.

Motive was lost in Destiny outside of the later expansions, but Destiny 2 is delivering it right from the beginning.
