10 Ways The Gaming Industry Can Further Engage The Female Audience

2. Don't Be Afraid To Make Female Protagonists Flawed

When crafting any good lead, it's tempting to make a Master Chief out of the whole thing. Game developers will like to focus on crafting a Bayonetta who is can do pretty much anything and has no inherent flaws. But that's not what anyone truly wants, at least not for every game. Samus Aran is a fun character to play as, but her silence and bravery is usually the star. We rarely see her making mistakes or acting selfish, unless we're talking about Metroid: Other M, which was a terrible overcorrection. It's fine to have female leads who are strong and kick all kinds of, well you know. At the same time, however, characters of any medium are far more compelling when you let them be relatable and even hard to like sometimes. This also goes for supporting characters in games, playable or non-playable.
