A pre-Christmas price drop in 2018 would be a fairly drastic move for Nintendo. Offering a bundle with pre-installed games or download codes packed in as made popular by the 3DS and 2DS would be less drastic. There'd be plenty of buyers happy to pick up a 'Mario Pack' with Odyssey and Mario Kart 8, or plenty of takers for a Splatoon 2 and Zelda: Breath of the Wild combo pack. Nintendo has seen success with bundling software with hardware throughout its entire history, and it makes sense to repeat it.

Better yet, releasing a dockless version of the Switch at a lower price point (let's call it Switch 'n' Go for argument's sake) would persuade those buyers still holding out for an outright price drop that's probably not going to happen before at least April 2019. It would also help Nintendo's financial results, which some are predicting won't make pleasant reading for the 3DS - despite the 2DS and new 2DS XL offering healthy sales.
