10 Ways Spyro: Reignited Is Better (And Worse) Than Crash Bandicoot: N Sane Trilogy
4. Worse: Collectathons Can Get Boring
On the flip side, beating a level in Crash is very clear cut. Did you get to the end? Hurray! You’re done! Yes, there’s gems for boxes but they’re either all on the basic route or the level is clearly designed to offer two playthroughs. Spyro’s is a lot less clear cut.
It’s fun at first to explore every corner of the map, but when you’re finished and stuck on 399/400 gems, it gets decidedly less fun rather quickly. In Reignited, Sparx can at least show you the way, but that is less helpful if you’re stuck on 214 rather than 399. Plus, with certain areas locked until you get new abilities, you’re never sure if you’ve done all you can or if you’ve missed a few on the way.
The dragons, orbs, talismans and eggs at least have some variety to them, so it doesn’t feel like it’s the same thing over and over. Collecting all the gems across all the levels (and hubs) in all three games? It can certainly get repetitive if you’re not sure what you’re getting yourself into.
