8 Ways To Make An Assassin's Creed Game That Doesn't Suck

3. Make The Grappling Hook A Finite Resource

Like the rut Call of Duty now finds itself in - being it's specced the experience towards being all future tech-focussed - they can't go backwards to anything less, considering things like the boost-jump have changed the core flow and feel of gameplay. As such, now we have a grappling hook in AC, essentially rendering the climbing useless - but also meaning Ubisoft have to factor in how it's used across the future of the series (if there's going to be one). The nearest comparison is Batman: Arkham Knight's grapple hook (which looks almost entirely like what Syndicate has ripped off), and although that item's use is infinite, Batman's gameplay never needed to revolve around climbing in the first place. The only way to restore a balance is to make the grappling hook something you'd have to save up and deploy at just the right time, or - again - factor it into a new climbing system and have it be a timed button-press that propels you up certain segments of the game world. At this stage, Ubisoft are butchering what's left of their own gameplay loop, and that could prove to be the final nail in AC's coffin.
