10 Ways To Make Assassin's Creed Work Again In 2017
2. Fill It With Memorable Characters
Considering how many characters each Assassin's Creed game introduces, it's a shame that hardly any of them really stick out in players' minds once they stop playing. If the characters are forgettable, then the game's plot is already facing an uphill battle with players' interest levels. If the plot can't handle that additional pressure, then the entire game could be lost.
It's difficult not to reminisce about the characters in AC2 like Da Vinci and Rodrigo Borgia as they represent the memorability that many of AC's characters lack. Borgia was memorable for being pure evil and giving players a worthy, backstabbing villain to hate. Da Vinci gave players a quirky inventor-type that was always entertaining to interact with. That wasn't all though, as Da Vinci found a way to remain purposeful throughout the campaign, giving Ezio his many weapons and gadgets.
A memorable and interesting protagonist is expected in every game. Unforgettable side characters elevate a game to greater heights that wouldn't have been reached otherwise. The ability for players to care about what happens to these characters is essential, as that helps elevate the plot and the tension during key moments of the campaign.
Characters can be one-note and mostly filler, or they can help make up the foundation of the game itself. It's time Ubisoft uses their characters for the latter.
