10 Ways To Make Sure The Call Of Duty Movie Doesn't Suck
5. Focus On Strong Characters
As discussed earlier, the storylines of the Call Of Duty games have never been their strong point. Theres a terrorist group with nuclear weapons/an evil satellite/doomsday device that need to be put down. It never gets much more complex than that. The amount the player will care depends upon how much they engage with it. If they care a little bit when a supporting or sometimes playable character meets a shocking demise thats about as much emotion as the games can hope to draw. With a movie they have a chance to develop characters the audience will actually engage with. The story doesnt need to be groundbreaking but if they get a strong team of characters together the audience will be onboard. For this they need to bring on strong actors who can invest their game counterparts with some depth. Captain Price is the unofficial star of the franchise and his father/son relationship with Soap was the one that connected with players the most, so those two would be a natural choice. Cast good actors in those roles (Gary Oldman would make a great Price), let them develop their parts and the movie is already starting on a strong footing.
