10 Ways To Make The Perfect Star Wars Video Game
5. Leave The RPGs To Bethesda
Bioware's Knights of the Old Republic, and Obsidian's sequel, showed the RPG fans that Star Wars is a viable option for subject matter for a strategic, enormous adventure but that isn't to say perfection was achieved - far from it.
RPGs have never needed to be about queuing actions, boring conversations/quests and solving painfully simple puzzles, but Bioware were hellbent on these three core principles for KOTOR. Being unable to actually 'swing' the Lightsaber drained so much of the fun away from the game, to the point where many action-orientated gamers walked away and invested their hours in a more combative RPG, such as Morrowind.
Bethesda are still the kings of the RPG, with Morrowind, Skyrim and Fallout easily being some of their best work. The former offered great competition to KOTOR in the market, but trumped the Star Wars title thanks to more engaging combat - even Bioware's Jade Empire allowed the player more control over their attacks.
If the ultimate Star Wars game is achievable, then at least consult Bethesda as to which RPG elements are going to be included. No action queues, just attacking properly, please!
