6. The Darkness 2
The Darkness II had us back in the shoes of Jackie Estacado, now the Don of the Franchetti crime family, who still wields the powers of the Darkness though manages to keep them in check due to the guidance of his personal occultist Johnny Powell. After being attacked in a restaurant by a rival mob, Jackie gets seriously injured after being caught in an explosion. Succumbing to the Darkness, Jackie kills several enemies with ease, and chases the remainder of them into the subway, before witnessing a vision of his dead girlfriend- Jenny- nearby and ends up getting run over by an oncoming train. He wakes up in a psychiatric hospital were all of his mobsters and Jenny are doctors, nurses and inmates who tell him that his mob stories are hallucinations brought on by mafia fiction. Jackie awakens and finds Johnny Powell, who has done a runner on him. Johnny tells Jackie he is being chased by an organization called the Brotherhood who want to use the Darkness for their own evil plans. Jackie then revisits the hospital after being shot in the head by Bragg, a Brotherhood enforcer. This further blurs the lines of reality. After finally defeating the head of the Brotherhood, Victor, Jackie kills himself in an attempt to rescue Jenny from Hell. This leads him back to the hospital where the Darkling appears and sacrifices himself to help Jackie escape. Jackie reaches the roof, and is chased down by Victor (now a doctor), Jenny, and an orderly who attempt to convince Jackie that his life as a mob boss is a delusion and that the world in the psychiatric ward is real. On the roof of the asylum, Jackie is given a choice: stay with Jenny in the ward or reject the asylum and attempt to reach Hell. This worked really well by leaving the player to question Jackie's sanity throughout the game and to wonder if everything really is just a paranoid delusion. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xFuU78tmS7A
