10 Weirdest PS1 & PS2 Games That Wouldn't Get Made Today

A game about fireworks...

No really, that's not a joke. That was FantaVision.

A fully realised title for the PS2, launched around the same time as the console. So you know what that means, don't you?

I'll give you three words: Glorified Tech Demo.

That's all it was, essentially. And whilst that sounds like a harsh criticism, it's more just matter of fact. I enjoyed FantaVision, back when I played it.

But it holds about as much lasting value as an actual firework display. Great when you're there, instantly forgotten.

Whilst it has been emulated for the PS4, it's clear to see it's nothing more than a showcase title to show what the PS2 could do.

Were that to be pitched now, as anything other than a technical demo for the PS5, it wouldn't make it past that stage. Well, unless publishers could monetise it, I suppose...

Aside from that, it would be hard to make a game as insubstantial as FantaVision for a broader market. Maybe as a less-than-a-fiver dalliance to test out your new TV, but not as a revised/remastered series.
