10 Weirdest PS1 & PS2 Games That Wouldn't Get Made Today

7. Skullmonkeys

I absolutely love Skullmonkeys. It's so bizarre in concept, and the claymation style just ramps that weirdness up to the max.

But what I love about it is that it was unique then, way back in 1998. We hadn't really platformers like this, barring the eccentric nature of Earthworm Jim and the Oddworld titles for the mainstream.

The problem is, I don't think Skullmonkeys would have that much of an impact in the current climate. With most platforming games now favouring full 3D, Skullmonkeys would be a drop in the ocean of smaller "retro"-inspired games.

That, and claymation is already a headache to animate normally. I doubt The Neverhood would take such a massive time and gamble if the payoff wasn't guaranteed.

Well, not that Skullmonkey sold millions the first time around.

Yet whereas developers were willing to take that risk in the earlier console days, the threat of a bigger pool to drop into wouldn't see something so creative get made today.

Just look at Armikrog, The Neverhood's latest claymation follow up. Barely anyone's touched that, with user reviews in the minimal.
