10 Worst Boss Battles In Final Fantasy History - Ranked

7. Lich (#2) – Final Fantasy I

The original Final Fantasy remains one of the toughest challenges in the series. The game is full of tough encounters that demand the player grind their characters' levels and properly prepare before engaging enemies. For the most part this is a fun test, especially if that is what you enjoy these games for.

The first battle against the Lich, one of the elemental fiends, is tough, but surmountable – as are most of the other mandatory boss battles (and rightly so). However, towards the end of the game you have to fight the Lich again - this time on steroids!

Now, replacing his level 2 magic with level 8 magic, raising his HP and removing elemental weaknesses is tough and, if we're honest, a little cheap. His attack pattern of Flare, Stop, Warp and Doom leaves you little to no chance of healing your party, essentially making the pattern an insta-kill on the whole party. You'll only survive with a near maxed party and a lot of luck.

This is just about bearable for an optional boss – but for a mandatory boss, this fight is simply maddening.
