10 WORST Things About Popular Video Game Genres

1. Boring Tutorials - Collectible Card Games

Despite sometimes wielding similar items and mechanics, no card game is alike.

From the simplicity of Triple Triad to the intimidating waters of Magic: The Gathering, there's often so many unique quirks that need to be learned to get the best out of the game's often complex systems. Unless you have the freedom of Breath of the Wild to create a learning stage that mimics the wider game, tutorials have to be thorough, and as such are rarely ever enjoyable.

At the risk of sounding like your Year 5 Science teacher, learning is fun, but learning something in order to enjoy something else just feels like you're being held back from the main event.

Ants infest your pants, which is a dangerous (and probably uncomfortable) situation to be in, as the more restless you become, the more likely you are to skip through the boring, hand-holding segment.

Trudging though the banal tutorial to emerge from the other side means many players feel the need to stick to one game in the genre for fear of repeating the same mind-numbing affair elsewhere. What began as a curiosity into the card-game genre has now rendered you a prisoner to a single game.

You'll be good at Hearthstone, though, which is something, I guess.
