10 Worst Video Game Boss Battles Of 2018
5. The Horned One - Ni No Kuni 2: Revenant Kingdom
Ni No Kuni: Dominion of the Dark Djinn was an instant classic when it came out for the PS3 back in 2011, though most seem to have forgotten that this title was actually an enhanced port of a 2010 Nintendo DS exclusive. Eight years have gone by since its first release, and those original games remain as charming as ever.
2018’s Ni No Kuni 2: Revenant Kingdom is perhaps a little less captivating than its predecessor, but that relative consensus may have been the result of some seriously inflated expectations. Revenant Kingdom is a great game, but it simply isn’t quite as enchanting as the series’ first outing.
The worst aspect of the experience was by far the final boss fight against The Horned One. While plugging away at a boss for forty five minutes is pretty standard fare for most games in the genre, this overly-long fight is hindered by the game’s focus on real-time melee attacks.
The pseudo-Pokémon styled combat system seen in the first game is totally gone, and in its place is an underwhelming hack-and-slash affair. The game’s finale winds up being a monotonous button-mashing encounter, and the series is all the worse for it, unfortunately.
