10 Worst Video Game Boss Battles Of 2018
2. Liu Bei - Dynasty Warriors IX
The final boss fight of the fantastically terrible Dynasty Warriors IX, Liu Bei is more a victim of the game’s overall flaws than an underwhelming outlier in an otherwise polished experience. The Dynasty Warriors series has always been known for its epic army-against-army boss encounters, yet this entry just falls flat.
One of the games most significant issues is that, though the developers shoehorned in an open world environment, very little attention is paid to world-building or storytelling. Most bosses are encountered without any real buildup or emotional investment, and they just end up feeling bland.
What’s worse is the downright atrocious English voice acting present in the title. The series has long been infamous for hoaky voicings, but this takes the cake by far. New players are highly advised to switch the the Japanese or Chinese dubs. Seriously, these actors speak like they memorized all of their lines phonetically.
Perhaps it is simply time to recognize that the Dynasty Warriors franchise is better left in the past. Modern publishers are far too eager to simplify the gameplay to capture broader audiences or insert micro-transactions which further ruin the otherwise legendary reputation of the series.
